Project NATAL (Wii/PS3 Killer)

At E3 today, Microsoft finally took the wraps off the that rumored motion controller we'd been hearing about. Apparently the small, black device -- codenamed "Natal" -- will allow for an astoundingly wide range of actions by utilizing a group of sensors (the box itself sits beneath your TV), and the accessory will be capable of juggling multiple users during a single session. The demo Microsoft showed off included a skateboarding game (replete with a young man "air" ollie-ing), and a family playing a racing game (the dad was changing a tire, the daughter driving).

Serato Video for SL-1

You can now use the original Serato box with Video. A external midi device is a must to assign keys. I recommend the Korg nanoseries keyboard/pads. Click the link at the bottom to download and instructions. You can use it for 30 days free. Here's some of the main features of Video-SL 1.1.0:
New features:
SL1 and SL3 support
These are now 'authorized devices'
This requires Scratch Live 1.9
MIDI assignable controls
When the 'video' panel is open and you enter 'MIDI assign mode' the Video-SL GUI is replaced by a selection of controls that can be assigned MIDI in the same way as other Scratch Live functions.
This requires Scratch Live 1.9
Offline player
Pressing the video button in Scratch Live 1.9 while offline will now start a 1 channel offline video player that can preview and save effects for set preparation without hardware.
This requires Scratch Live 1.9
Contoured Faders
The fader positions used in Video-SL can now be contoured in the same way as the audio faders on the TTM 57SL. This can be linked to the position of the faders on the mixer or set manually in the 'control' tab of the setup are in Video-SL.
NB: We perceive video intensity levels very different to audio levels so this doesn't always 'look' right.
New effects
We now have audio reactive effects and a new architecture for accessing information within effects (making them easy to write and modify). There is also a rigid body solver.
Types of effects:
Audio (example is isolator bass): We have an 8 band analyzer at our disposal so can (i.e.)turn colours on only on the bass.
Split (example is split): We can split the image into sections and offset/control at will.
Record movement (example record fade): We can respond to the speed the record is moving and 'visualize' scratches.
EQ knobs (example rgb eq): We can use the position of the 57's EQ knobs to change video parameters.
BPM (example flash on bpm): Syncs an event in the effect to the pitched BPM of the deck
Rigid Body (example block columns): A built in physics engine
Analyser (example analyzer): These audio effects present an 8 band spectrum analysis of the audio. These will also act as if a video is loaded.

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ Controller

Designed by Numark, the left/right reversible turntable/mixer combo took a more traditional approach by incorporating trigger pads and crossfader off to the side of the vinyl conrtrols. Additinoally, players can customize game play using sounds from 60 battle records that come included in the game or uploading their own samples through a USB microphone.

The Legendary: Frosty Freeze

Wayne "Frosty Freeze" Frost (December 4, 1963 - April 3, 2008), also known as The Freeze To Please, was an American old school hip hop bboy known as a member of the second generation of the hip hop/breakdancing group, The Rock Steady Crew.
As a member of The Rock Steady Crew, he was known for his comedic, acrobatic and inventive style. His trademark move is known as, "The Suicide", also known as "The Death Freeze Drop" (a move that he created accidentally by attempting a poorly executed backflip and landing on his back).
His talents with The Rock Steady Crew were featured in movies such as Flashdance, Wild Style, Style Wars and The Freshest Kids and also appeared on the cover of The Village Voice in 1981. He was featured in early hip hop music videos such as Afrika Bambaataa and The Soulsonic Force's "Planet Rock" and Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals".
In 2004, he along with several other members of The Rock Steady Crew were honored at the VH-1 Hip Hop Honors.
Frosty Freeze resided in New York City, regularly making appearances at many hip-hop events throughout the New York metropolitan area and elsewhere in the country. He was stricken with an undisclosed illness during early 2008, went on life support on March 27, and died on April 3, 2008.
